Jenny Lawton

Hi, I'm Jenny, a 15 year old event rider who has one aim with her eventing: To compete at as many Olympics than Mary King.

I learnt to ride when I was 4 and got my first pony when I was 5.  That same year I competed in my first One Day Event, on the naughtiest shetlend that has walked the planet, Toby.  We were in the 1'9" lead rein class and in the dressage Toby actually bit my mum then jumped out of the arena, expecting a telling off!  We got the worst dressage score, then the only clear round showjumping and in the cross country he stopped at pretty much every fence (with me falling off at least twice) but back then you could just keep going!  I was determined to improve my result and thus my passion for eventing was born.

I am incredibly thankful to my amazing family for a) Moving to the country which enabled me to get a pony and b) All the support and help without which I would be nowhere.  I literally wouldn't be able to do anything without my super efficient, practical and knowledgable mother, Kate, who worked with horses for 10 year as a teenager.  She drives me to all the events, organises everything to the annoyingly minute detail and keeps the horses in the best condition possible, she is my unsung hero!

This year I will be eventing a new ride, MGH Clover Street, or Moose. He has come from Lucy Wiegersma and is a gorgeous six year old who I cannot wait to get eventing.  He will hopefully take me to Juniors in 2016/17. Devastatingly this means we will have to part with the fabulous Oaklands Sagittarius, my Pocket-Rocket-Super-Pony and best friend . You can read more about them both on the Horses page.

Lastly, I would like to thank my trainer Pat Wakefield, without whom I would NEVER have acheived anything. She always knows how to solve a problem or get the best out of me and my horses.  She is my inspiration and I will be honoured if I am ever half as good at reading a horse as she is.
